The Worst Video of A Snowy Owl EVER
Glad I caught your attention.
Well, I’m not kidding. This is bad video footage. It was a rotten, frigid day with wind blowing off the Great Lake of Ontario. I was standing on the side of a narrow, busy road with my van illegally parked, hazards flashing, leaning on a guard rail, and fighting gale force winds (And giant squids! And midgets with long sticks!), hoping no one was going to arrest me. I was using my old Canon 12x PS IS point-and-shoot without a tripod.
No other birding blogger would post what I’m about to show you. But here at Birds, Words, and Websites, I’m all about the truth.
‘Cuz if you squint really hard and let your imagination wander, you just might find it fascinating to watch a Snowy Owl basking in the sun of a frigid winter’s day, its feathers blowing and lifting in the wind, its head doing that mutant 270-degree owl maneuver, its eyes staring me down in response to my camera clicks. You might feel, for a moment, how cool it must be to be a mere 60 yards from a cooperative Snowy Owl…and you might be inspired to chase one yourself next year.
Watch and enjoy. But, for the love of god, hold onto the table and take your Dramamine…
Perhaps a Bad Birding Video carnival is in order?

You really shouldn’t drive under the influence of alcohol and then to promote the results tut tut.
Alan,
Does the same rule apply to writing??? If so…
: )
RE: your Victorian Attitude post: “Imagine how little we would know these days if Darwin had had to take his kids with him every time he went on a trip. ”

Your pain is mine, my friend.
Thanks, nice to know I’m not alone. Check out my own dodgy video at http://laridae.blogspot.com/2009/03/mediterranean-gull.html
I aspire to do what you do (nature travel writing) so hope you dont mind but I intend to stop by now and again to learn from your work.
pretty funny, laura – but hey, at least you HAVE a video of a snowy owl! Most are not so fortunate ….
keep it up!
