Top Fall Birding & Nature Festivals

Okay, peeps. If you are not already scheduled for a fall birding festival I’m afraid I’ll have to send the birding police after you.

Festivals are like one big happy hour for birders. Except our happy hour starts at dawn, breaks at noon, then starts up again in the afternoon with great talks by esteemed bird gurus (sometimes followed by a traditional happy hour at the local watering hole!) and can drag on for day after glorious life-bird day.

Besides hob-nobbing with other bird lovers, you get to bird side-by-side with top-notch birders and see birds you wouldn’t have a prayer of seeing on your own. (Sorry if that sounds cold. I’m young enough to birding that I can still get away with it — I still miss a lot).

The camaraderie at festivals is hard to beat and most are rather inexpensive. As an added bonus, some even support birding and conservation organizations. So, what are you waiting for? Reserve your spot today before the birding bacon starts ticketing.

Head on over to Away.com for a list of fall birding festivals (compiled by yours truly) and pick your favorite.

Care to comment? What is your favorite fall birding festival and why?

(I’ll be at Midwest Birding Symposium-will I see you there?)
