Northern Mockingbird in Mid-Chew

This Northern Mockingbird visited the watering hole just outside my blind during the photo safari at Martin Ranch. Captured in mid-chew, the bird is downing a squirmy mealworm.

Having just returned from an excellent birding trip, I’ve been unusually quiet here. I’m sorry for that. My excuse is technology: I’ve been wrestling with full hard drives, corrupt photos, and a learning curve on image recovery and digital post-processing.  Things became so complex, I actually memorized my Apple Care case ID.

Happy to report that after pushing my system to its limits and establishing an improved work flow among my main drive and two external drives, I have finally made progress. All my images are recovered (yea!) and downloaded and now the somewhat Herculean task of sorting, labeling, and processing them lies before me.  However, I don’t plan to have that all finished before I start blogging. My posts should roll out soon, with only the Turkey Day holiday to get in the way. Gobble, gobble.

Speaking of gobbling, above is a mid-chomp image of a Northern Mockingbird downing an unlucky mealworm. Reminds me of that dog trick where you place a treat on Fido’s nose and he flips his head up, sends the treat sailing into the air, and he traces it and swallows it whole. Or is that just me?
