Assuage Your Urge To Bird at The Biggest Week

May 5, 2010 | 1

Thank god for birding festivals or I may never bird! I’ve been so busy with work this spring I’ve only managed to get our birding a few times. Happily, most of my work is bird related, so even if I’m cloistered in the office, in my brain I am far away mingling with the avi-gentsia from many continents. This week brought a tea party with Kirtland’s Warbler, sweet tea with Gulf Coast pelicans, and a spicy umbrella drink with tropical bowerbirds. Fun stuff!

But this weekend’s trip to the western shore of Lake Erie should assuage my urge to bird.  I’m heading to The Biggest Week  in American Birding, of course, to experience warbler fallout first hand. Being that the event overlaps with International Migratory Bird Day, the number of migrating birders here may well compete with the number of migrating birds!

I’m ready for it all, though. Of course, I’d love to meet you if TBW is in your travel plans. Look for me at the Leica booth outside Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge or Black Swamp Bird Observatory. As a new Leica prostaffer, I’ll be there helping folks try out Leica’s range of birding optics.

Good birding!
