Travel Writing
Laura reports on eco-friendly birding destinations in the U.S. and Central America. While focusing on what a site offers bird watchers and nature buffs, she researches the destination’s ecological significance, what specialities are unique to this area, and why birders should come here. Her birding travels have taken her to Honduras, Belize, Sicily, and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Most recently, she toured boreal habitats in the Adirondack Mountains and soon will be mixing with other birders and bloggers at the Midwest Birding Symposium.

Communications & Marketing
Laura writes marketing copy and can manage production of press releases, brochures/pdfs, electronic newsletters, e-books, résumés, and annual reports. She can help research affiliate marketing strategies for monetizing sites and has experience selling ads for an online travel magazine.
Technical & Scientific Writing
During her years as a citizen-science program manager, Laura managed large ecological data sets and helped make patterns in the data more accessible to volunteers. As such, Laura knows how to break down complex information into digestible bits and has written scientific summaries and reports, operations manuals, and technical primers. She’s a lead author on two peer-reviewed papers (in Journal of the Aquatic Plant Management, 1999, and Journal of the North American Lake and Reservoir Management, 1997) and co-author of another (Hydrobiologia, 2002).
Grant & Proposal Writing:
Laura has written and edited numerous project proposals and foundation grants for non-profits. She crafts persuasive language that gets proposals noticed.
