Writing
I am a technical and business writer with a keen interest in nature, travel, and birding, especially where these topics intersect with people and technology.
When topics and issues become too complex, I untangle the web, digest its vital elements, and deliver it to readers in its most essential form. My creative writing style trends toward the warm, intelligent, and engaging; I try to persuade people to understand, care, and act. From time to time, I drift into discussions of humanity and lifestyle. Click here for recent credits >>
Featured Blogger
I publish my own Travel & Birding Blog, where I post travel articles, app reviews, and adventures at the crossroads of birds, nature, and technology. I have served as a contributing blogger to organizations such as the American Birding Association and Audubon Guides, and as an “Official Blogger” for birding and nature festivals.
Web Content Specialist
Writing for the web may seem easy, but it’s not called the ‘web’ for nothing. It takes extraordinary level of analysis and ‘three-dimensional’ thinking to sift through your desired messages and web outcomes to arrive at effective web copy. I can help you define, craft, and publish your unique voice and services online. Click here to learn more about my web content and consulting services >>
Business & Proposal Writing
Clients often know what they want to say, but often don’t have the bandwidth to see it through. What I offer is a commitment to your success, an analysis of messaging and voice relative to your intended audience, and an outsider’s perspective that allows us to produce copy that informs and engages your audience while not boring them with internal details. I write and manage production of press releases, brochures/pdfs, electronic newsletters, e-books, résumés, proposals, grants, and annual reports.
Technical & Scientific Writing
My background in science (M.S. ecology) taught me how to manage large data sets and how to break down complex information into digestible chunks. As such, I can help you synthesize your content and write conservation articles, scientific summaries, operations manuals, and more.
Newsletters
For the past two years, I’ve been the managing editor and lead writer for the fall issue of Nature New York, a print newsletter of The Nature Conservancy of New York (Central & Western NY Chapter). I also serve as the managing editor of the Intermountain West Joint Venture e-newsletter. I’ve also had newsletter articles appear in Birdscope (Cornell Lab of Ornithology), The Little Gull (Rochester Birding Association), The Cardinal (Ohio Ornithological Society), LakeLine (North American Lake Management Society), and others.
Travel Writing
I report on eco-friendly bird and nature destinations in the U.S. and worldwide. While focusing on what a site offers bird watchers and nature buffs, I research a destination’s ecological significance, specialties unique to the area, and reveal its potential appeal to nature enthusiasts. My birding travels have taken me to spectacular places in the US and beyond, including the Adirondack Mountains of New York, the state parks of Texas, the High Andes of Ecuador (with Nikon’s Birding Adventures TV), the Very Dry Forest of Honduras, and the coastal zones of Belize. Most recently, I toured subalpine meadows by horseback in Yellowstone National Park. My travel articles are published on my Travel & Birding Blog but also appear on travel websites and magazines.
Contact me if you would like my help in promoting your destination to bird watchers and nature buffs.

My writing credits include iPhone Life, Nature New York, Birder’s World (now BirdWatching), Bird Watcher’s Digest, Do it Best Home Magazine, Rochester’s City Newspaper, Genesee Sun, and online publications such as Away.com and TheTraveler’sNotebook.com.
